name change
alright. i really like “i sleep in your hat” as a title. for those who don’t get it, it’s a tom waits lyric from “9th and hennepin,” and it was going to relate to the story … eventually. (i.e., when an as-of-yet character shows up and … ok, i’m not gonna give anything away.) i’ve always thought it was a really solid way of describing an obsessive, almost codependent need for someone, an element that will come into play later with previously mentioned character. BUT i’ve thought up a better title: twelve steps from superman. ok, it’s less arty-farty, but it describes the series better.
i also joined webcomicsnation.com. i’m contemplating upgrading my account, despite disliking paying money. i really do want to get word out there about my comic. now that i’m getting some pr training via my internship, i have an idea of what i need to do to pimp my work. it still feels very dirty.
i know i’m not very talented at drawing right now, but most comic people have the edge on me in terms of actually being in art careers and having anatomy classes under their belt. i’m basically just aping assorted manga/online comic influences. (faith hicks, auteur(e) of “demonology 101″ and “ice,” has had a HUGE influence on my work. so has jen wang, who drew the much-missed “strings of fate.” back in the days when she drew schnozes to rival escaflowne.) i’m looking toward dylan meconis, the auteur(e) of “bite me!” and “family man” as my inspiration — she got a history degree and she still draws bitchin’ comics. and damn if her background doesn’t make her work astonishingly unique and quirky. (i’m not usually a fan of historical fiction, but when you give me german men with big noses and the tantalizing potential of werewolves, i’m not going to say no.)
anyway. my point is, it’s now “twelve steps from superman.” i’m going to fucking miss the old title though. i do have a soft spot for non-descriptive titles. just like my fondness for anticlimax. holler at j.d. salinger.
