new banner deal! modeled after jack daniels, obvi.

tried fiddling with the filters in photo studio for this one. it made it come out a little darker, with a bit higher contrast, which i liked. i hate how grey some of the older strips are, augh. i also used a ruler for the first time in drawing anything that entailed straight lines, so i think it came out particularly clean. next up: experimenting with backdrop/forward action. i was studying some frames of octopus pie today, and taking note of how she does backgrounds so as not to make them distracting. i like that comic a ton, btw! check it out: http://www.octopuspie.com it’s very popular, i’m sure you’ve heard of it. the artist did a comic called skirting danger a while back that i really liked, and i’m glad she’s gone on to bigger, a-little-bit-more-somber things.

jimmy and suresh (that’s his dreamboat of a room mate, who will probably never be seen again, so bid adieu) have an apartment i modeled after a pilsen one bedroom i saw on craigslist. yes, that’s right — someone slept in the living room. jimmy has the room to himself, because he pays more rent. and no, i don’t know how leases work. i’m still freeloading off my parents, sillies! there is a fonzy poster over their stove, and the poster(s) behind jimmy are the front and back cover of dismemberment plan’s “emergency and i.” there’s also a band flier for blitzen trapper, which is the work of suresh, who’s jimmy’s junior by around five years. jimmy’s not really a show kid anymore. suresh’s tattoos are a spade, club, heart, and diamond (he’s a big poker player) and they are conspicuously missing in panel 11. FUCK. why is suresh moving to new york, you ask? why, bigger better things!

anyway, this page doesn’t make me want to claw my eyes out, so i like that.
