derek: WHEN ARE WE GOING TO SEE HIS PENIS
soon, folks! soon.
i’m not sure if it’s clear, but he’s checking his reserve cash supply, only to find an IOU and a butterfly/moth/winged creature. also, at the end, he’s covering his face with the book, not smelling it. i don’t think that came off though. damn, oh well.
jimmy is reading raymond carver, short story writer extraordinaire. i’m sure you’ve heard of him. if you haven’t, read him, NOW. although it’s rarely expressed, jimmy is something of a writer … all of his friends are artists, obvi, and i guess that’s kind of how he fits into the “scheme” of them. what’s great about this is i don’t have to draw any artwork that jimmy supposedly drew and pass it off as “good.” haha, suckers! (as said before, jimmy hasn’t gone to college, though, so he mostly just reads books on his own. he wants to succeed ala hemingway … forgetting that hemingway lived in an entirely different era, with world wars and not needing a bachelor’s degree to do anything of substance. oh well, i guess we have the internet.)
this might be the last panel where i use this standard form, i’m going to try and mix it up from now on. there’s just not enough space in each itty bitty panel to squeeze in the detail i want. this means i will probably draw more background (guh) but you also get more character detail. win-lose situation.

Raymond Carver’s ‘Cathedral’ is probably one of my favorite short stories!
“Let me get you a drink. What’s your pleasure? We have a little bit of everything. It’s one of our pastimes.”
It’s hard for me to point out ‘why?’ in a few sentences but… Best. Line. Ever.
